A 17-year-old boy is dead in the wake of a solo vehicle crash that happened Saturday in Livermore, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Officers responded to a crash involving a BMW 535i that hit a tree on Del Valle Road south of Mendenhall Road around 5:32 p.m., according to CHP Officer Tyler Hahn.

It’s unknown why the vehicle left the roadway, “but speed sounds likely,” Hahn said.
