Los Angeles wildfires force closure of Universal Studios Hollywood, other major amusement park

Universal Studios Hollywood sent out a rare closure e-mail, shutting its doors Wednesday “due to extreme winds and fire conditions.” Both the park and CityWalk are expected to re-open on Thursday, Jan. 9, it read.

The Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire near Pasadena continued to rage on Wednesday due to extreme winds. Tens of thousands in densely populated areas of Los Angeles have been evacuated and there is little containment.

Universal was not the only amusement park in the region to close. Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia also announced closure due to high winds.

Other major parks, Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park, Disneyland in Anaheim, Legoland in Carlsbad remain open.
