UPDATE: San Jose’s HoM Korean Kitchen reboots, reopens

After going dark and off the grid for a few weeks, with Yelpers declaring the restaurant closed, HoM Korean Kitchen has reopened for limited hours in downtown San Jose.

“We’re rebooting ourselves. A new crew, new ideas. A new year,” the management announced after again welcoming customers for “build your own” bowls.

Hours will be limited to lunchtime until the staff gets up to speed, after which the owner hopes to add dinner hours.

The HoM Korean concept, launched in downtown San Jose in 2015 by a Berkeley chef, allows customers to pick a base (toasted, mixed grains or steamed white rice, or salad greens), then a protein (Korean Steak, Firecracker Pork, barbecue chicken, organic tofu) and three chilled sides (banchan) from several vegetable choices.

Braised beef short ribs were popular for several years, but that option had to be dropped when the price of short ribs increased to $18 a pound, the owner said.

Details: Open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 76 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose.
