After beginning deliberations, jurors determined Ivan Rodriguez had committed seven counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child under 14 years of age; three counts of a lewd act on a child under 14; child abuse under circumstances likely to cause great bodily harm or death; domestic violence battery causing an injury; and driving against traffic while fleeing the police.

Judge Bryan J. Kim then ordered Rodriguez to return for a presentencing report and sentencing at 10 a.m. March 17 in the Justice Building. Rodriguez remains in custody without bail, but the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, which issued a press statement on Monday, did not specify which jail.

Deputy Public Defender Michael Hellman represented Rodriguez, who required a Spanish-language interpreter during his court appearances. Deputy District Attorney William J. Moser led the prosecution.

Former Vallejo Police Officer Yanette Hernandez investigated the case. Victim Witness Advocate Andrea Vela provided victim advocacy and support throughout the trial.

Court records show that over a two-year period, from December 2019 to December 2021, Rodriguez forcibly sexually assaulted a minor who was under his care and custody. On numerous occasions, he sexually and physically abused the minor victim while occasionally threatening to harm her or her mother if she did not submit to his demands.

The minor, who was 9 years old at the time the assaults began, was scared of the defendant, “as he was a person entrusted with her care,” according to wording in the prepared statement.

Learning of the crimes, the girl’s mother confronted Rodriguez immediately. After being confronted, he physically assaulted the victim’s mother, fled the house, and led police officers on a dangerous pursuit, driving on the wrong side of the road endangering everyone on the roadway.

The District Attorney’s Office filed its complaint on Dec. 31, 2021.

During the two-week trial, the girl testified about Rodriguez’s abuse. Her mother also testified about what she witnessed.

At sentencing, Rodriguez faces the possibility of decades in state prison and being required to register as a sex offender.

In the statement, District Attorney Krishna Abrams, Solano’s chief law enforcement officer, urged anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault or domestic violence — or knows someone who has — to call (707) 784-6827.
