A class of his own: Alec Blair becomes De La Salle’s all-time leading scorer
De La Salle star Alec Blair officially etched his name in the record books on Tuesday night.
The two-sport Oklahoma commit scored 26 points in a 79-37 win over Granada and passed 2001 graduate Joe See to become De La Salle’s all-time leader in career points. See previously held the record at 1,620 points, but Blair is in sole possession of the record as he reached 1,652.
“I’ve had a front row seat for every single one of those points, and I think Alec is such an incredible scorer,” De La Salle coach Marcus Schroeder told the Bay Area News Group on Tuesday night. “What he’s done in his career is amazing. … It’s been an incredible four years, and he’s got a few more points to be had.”
Blair came into this season just over 200 points away from See’s record. Following De La Salle’s season-opening win over Crespi, Blair said breaking the all-time scoring record was on his list of accomplishments he wanted to reach this season.
“To me, most importantly I want to win state. I want to get a couple of 30-point games and I would love to get the scoring record at De La Salle,” Blair said.

Blair has been a steady scorer for De La Salle even as a freshman. He averaged just over 10 points per game in his first season on varsity and has gotten better every year.
The 6-foot-7 guard has made all-league and all-Bay Area News Group honors for three straight years. This season, Blair is averaging just over 20 points per game for De La Salle, which is currently ranked No. 5 in the latest Bay Area News Group rankings.
Blair missed two games last month due to a shoulder injury, but he has not missed a beat since coming back. He has averaged 22 points per game in the six-game stretch since returning to the floor.
While Blair has always had the ability to get to the rim, Schroeder credits the development of his mid-range jumper as his ultimate development as a scorer.
“He shoots over 55% on 2-point field goals,” Schroeder said. “I think that part of his game has definitely developed along with his mid-range at the elbow. And then his three-point shooting has definitely developed, too.”
Blair’s route to basketball stardom is certainly not a traditional one.
A talented baseball player, Blair has not been on the AAU circuit like many of his basketball contemporaries. In the spring and summers, Blair trades in his basketball sneakers for a bat and a glove.

For Schroeder, Blair’s commitment to both sports makes it even more impressive that he obtained De La Salle’s all-time scoring record.
“He’s been playing at such a high level basketball-wise and he’s been doing that for four years,” Schroeder said. “And then, he’s been playing at such a high-level baseball-wise. He’s just such a gifted athlete and a very gifted individual.
“It’s amazing what he’s doing, because he obviously spends time doing baseball and that can take some time away from basketball and vice versa. So to be able to do it at that high level where he’s not allotting his entire calendar year to one or the other, I mean it’s ridiculous.”
