OAKLAND — A rare shooting in the Oakland Hills early Wednesday hospitalized a man, authorities said.

The gunfire happened about 9:10 a.m. in the 1900 block of Cortereal Avenue in the Montclair District, authorities said. An ambulance took the man to a hospital. Authorities did not have an update on his condition.

According to police, the man was walking and perhaps was headed toward his home on another street a short distance away. It was unclear what caused the shooting, and police did not confirm immediately reports that the shooting was tied to a robbery.

Police said the man was shot at least twice. They did not announce any arrests.
