East Bay 3-year-old dies from self-inflicted gunshot

ANTIOCH — A 3-year-old toddler died Tuesday night after police said it shot itself with a gun at a home, police said.

Few details about the incident were available Wednesday morning, including whether the toddler was a boy or a girl. In a statement, Antioch police said they would share additional details as they became available.

Officers were called to a residence on Clearbrook Road off Lone Tree Way about 6 p.m. after calls to the dispatch center that the shooting had occurred. The child died at the scene.

“At this time, the incident appears to be an accidental shooting,” police said in their statement. “This is a heartbreaking event, and our thoughts are with the family and those affected during this incredibly difficult time.”
