North Berkeley BART station closed while authorities investigate report of a person hit by a train

BERKELEY — The North Berkeley BART station was closed Monday morning while authorities investigated a report of a person possibly hit by a train.

About 10:32 a.m. Monday BART officials said the station was closed and the Richmond line shut down in both directions due to a medical emergency and preliminary information was that “a person entered the trackway and a collision may have occurred with a train.”  The possible collision happened about 10 a.m., authorities said.

The person was removed from the trackway and taken to a hospital, BART said.

The person’s age and gender have not been released and their condition was not available.

No other information was immediately available.

Riders were being advised to take alternative routes before the station was reopened at 11 a.m..
