Frequently targeted Oakland convenience store robbed three times in one day
OAKLAND — A frequently-targeted convenience store in the Grand Lake district was robbed three times within 15 hours Tuesday — with a 76-year-old clerk working during two of the holdups, authorities said.
Neither he or another clerk working during the first robbery were physically injured, authorities said.
Police do not think at this time the same suspects were involved in the three robberies.
The spree began about 8:38 a.m. Tuesday at the 7-Eleven Store, 3500 Grand Ave., at Mandana Boulevard.
Two masked men entered the store, jumped over the counter and demanded the clerk, a 34-year-old woman, open the cash register, authorities said. The worker told police later that she thought one of the men had a gun in his waistband. The suspects fled with cash.
About 9:25 p.m. two men entered the store, walked behind the counter and forced open the register, taking cash, authorities said. They also searched the 76-year-old man, who was working alone as the clerk, but did not take anything from him, authorities said.
The same clerk was working about 11:30 p.m. when three men entered the store. One of them pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded cash from the register, which he gave them, authorities said. The suspects fled with the cash, some lottery scratcher tickets and some soft drinks, authorities said.
