Oakland saloon hit by gunfire after patron forcibly removed, authorities say

OAKLAND — A man forced to leave a Grand Lake district saloon after creating a disturbance and attempting to stab a bouncer Sunday night was later detained after he allegedly fired multiple gunshots at the business, authorities said.

The bar was struck at least three times but no one was injured, authorities said. There were more than a dozen customers and employees inside at the time.

The violence happened about 6:54 p.m. Sunday at the Heart and Dagger Saloon, 504 Lake Park Avenue, authorities said.

Police said a 52-year-old man was creating a disturbance at the bar and was told to leave.

He allegedly responded by attempting to stab a bouncer with an arrow tipped with a titanium point, authorities said.

People in the saloon intervened, took the arrow away from him and pushed him outside, according to authorities.

Once outside, the man got a semi-automatic pistol and fired multiple rounds at the bar, hitting the closed front door three times, authorities said.

The man fled ran away on foot but was later found a few blocks away and detained by officers. Two guns were recovered on him, police said.

He was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and had not been booked at Santa Rita Jail as of Monday afternoon.
