SAN FRANCISCO — A magnitude 3.7 earthquake shook the Peninsula early Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Earthquake researchers race to Humboldt for clues to the next big temblor

The earthquake was centered about 3.1 miles northwest off the coast of San Francisco, close to Daly City. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that it was about 5 miles below the surface and about 2½ miles off the shore.

The quake was recorded at 7:02 a.m.

Authorities said there were no immediate reports of damage.
