National signing day: San Jose State, Stanford add transfers to football rosters
Danny Scudero is returning to San Jose.
The Bay Area News Group’s 2022 Santa Clara County Player of the Year out of Archbishop Mitty High School was among 13 players who have transferred to San Jose State, the athletic department announced Wednesday.
In a non-traditional national signing day, which has become the norm since the NCAA instituted a December signing period in 2017, San Jose State did not sign a single high school player on Wednesday.
Neither did Stanford, which announced on its website that it was welcoming six transfers.
Cal did not announce any newcomers.
Most high school players now sign during the early period. Stanford signed 19 in December, seven more than San Jose State did. Cal announced 37 incoming players in December.
The list San Jose State released on Wednesday included Scudero, a redshirt sophomore wide receiver who signed with Sacramento State out of high school. He played in 11 games for the Hornets last fall, starting four, and caught 53 passes for 667 yards and five touchdowns.
The Spartans also brought in Clayton Valley Charter product Charles Cox, a defensive back who received first-team all-conference recognition last fall with Diablo Valley College.
Stanford’s newcomers include former Marin Catholic standout Nikolas Prongos, an offensive lineman who spent his first three seasons at UCLA. He made eight starts last fall, playing both guard positions.
